Mark your tools

Engraving your tools makes it much harder for people to sell them on and if they’re recovered, it means the police can find you easily. If your tools are clearly marked, it may also deter people from taking them altogether.
Keep your tools locked away
Yes, this may seem like an obvious one but you need to make sure your toolbox and other storage are properly secured. Even if you’re leaving your tools unattended for a short period, keep them secure as a lot of theft is opportunistic. Go for a heavy duty lock – the harder something looks to break into the less likely it is that you’ll be a target!
Don’t get complacent on site
When it’s time to knock off on site, it’s tempting to drop your tools and head home. However, don’t rely on the security available at the site. Take home all of your tools and materials at the end of the day unless you want to risk them not being there in the morning. If you need to leave anything on site, make sure it’s appropriately secured.
Make sure your vehicle is secure
A lot of tradies keep their tools in the car, however you need to have security in mind. Always lock your vehicle if your tools are inside, even if you’re only going to be a few minutes. It only takes a minute for a thief to open your door and grab your tools. Keep your tools out of sight inside your vehicle and Invest in a bolted down toolbox if you have a ute. Try and park in a garage at night or at least in the driveway. The street is the riskiest place to park as it’s tempting to people walking past late at night.
